Odia girl, Susmita Mohanty, the ‘Interstellar Indian’ as anointed by Fortune magazine, has set out to revolutionise India’s space programme and transform it into a commercially profitable enterprise.
She has founded India’s first private space startup Earth2Orbit, which is making waves in global space industry by facilitating satellite launches for countries, international organisations and companies using Indian launch vehicles like PSLV of ISRO.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated her. “My heart always swells with pride seeing people of our state achieve pinnacles of success. And, when it is an Odia girl carving a name for herself globally, the happiness grows manifold,” said CM Patnaik.
“She is more than a role model. She is the real epitome of talent and capabilities of the ‘Odia jhia (girl)’. The prestigious Fortune magazine calls her a Global Indian and has featured her in its cover. I congratulate her and wish her all success in her dreams and pursuits. I am sure she will continue traverse the infinite boundaries of space with her acumen,” said CM Naveen Patnaik.
She has helped institutions like Osaka Institute of Technology, Japan and Google Terra Bella’s SkySat-3, the first commercial American microsatellite, onboard the PSLV. She is pursuing a dream of untapping the potential of Indian space sector so that it can grab at least a quarter of the global space market of over $300 billion.
Susmita is an amazing story of grit, determination and spirit of enterprise. Undaunted by the uncertainties and pitfalls, she dared to ventured into the unexplored and owned it all over. Back in India with Eart2Orbit, she is playing a pivotal role in opening up Indian space programme. The launch of record 104 satellites from a single vehicle by ISRO In February this year, which included 101 foreign ones, somewhere has its moorings in the efforts of Susmita.
